Kent started his career in coated seeds in 1984 at CelPril in Manteca, CA. With a fresh degree in Biology, he embarked in learning Quality Control of coated seed and Rhizobia bacteria, supplemented with Research including vegetable seed priming, writing SOP's, developing new tests and specifications.
By 1996, Kent led a team of individuals to introduce polymer coatings and new sophisticated seed treatment equipment to the North America market. The introduction of Roundup ready soybeans helped drive sales of polymers . Before long, Kent was charged with Product Development, Technical Sales and Quality Control responsibilities for all of CelPril as well as working as the North American seed application specialist for CelPril's parent company.
In 1998, Kent left CelPril to become part owner in Engineered Technology Systems (ETS), a small firm that invented how to coat and pellet seed in Rhotostat equipment. ETS was sold to GTG group of United Kingdom in the early 2000's.
Kent resurfaced to build, hire, train and manage Summit Seed Coatings Salem, Indiana facility in 2014. After being flooded out in 2017, he built and ran Midwest Seed Coating in New Albany, Indiana. After the sale of Midwest Seed Coatings in 2021, Kent decided to leave and start Coated Seed Concepts in 2024.
